As an artist, I work hard to make both me and other people smile while looking at my work. Cartoons are something that people of every age can enjoy and that’s one of the many reasons why I love to make them. My process begins with a memory or event that I find interesting and I turn that memory into a story. The memory is often exaggerated or turned into something that is more funny or entertaining.
My art is inspired by real life experiences. I grew up with four brothers and one sister. I’ve been working as a nanny and with kids at my church for the past two and a half years. I’ve been surrounded by children my whole life, and for that reason, it inspires what I make. Kids say and do a lot of funny things. They also have wild imaginations and I find that incredibly inspiring.
Recently I have been working with acrylic paint as a base and scanning in my paintings to continue rendering. The combination of the two can create a playful mood for scenes. I also experiment with screen printing, etching and monotype which forces me to slow down and really enjoy the art making process instead of rushing to an end product.
